How it works?
DEF(Diesel Exhaust Fluid) stored in a separate tank in vehicles equipped with SCR technology(Selective Catalytic Reduction) is released in small amounts into the exhaust pipe right before the SCR catalyst, downstream of
the engine. The heat in the exhaust causes DEF to breakdown into ammonia(NH3) and carbon dioxide(CO2).
In the SCR catalyst, the harmful NOx molecules from the engine exhaust react with ammonia(NH3) resulting in it being converted to harmless nitrogen(N2) and water(H2O), which
are then released as steam from the tail pipe.
